John F. Tanner, Ed.D.
Native El Pasoan who is committed to the educational advancement of El Paso's students. During his tenure at Austin High School, Tanner has made his vision a reality in terms of students entering a 4 year college. The National Student Clearinghouse (part of the Gate's Foundation) has ranked Austin as the #1 school in Texas for "beating the odds" regarding college admission. Further, Austin is the #1 school in EPISD for recipients of scholarships and grants.
Tanner's commitment to this vision is seen in the SDOA. SDOA students have received significant scholoarships and are represented at universities such as West Point, St. Mary's, TCU, Texas A&M, UT, Sam Houston State University (cited as a top school for criminal justice and forensics) and UTEP.
